Funding

Junior jogscotland Viewpark, has received £1500 of funding from Strathclyde Police Community Partnership fund. These funds will ensure the club continue to operate on a free basis for the kids.

This funding follows on from funding received from The Warburtons Trust, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and Portal.

How we are doing

Hi all, it has been a while since I last posted an update on how the club is getting on. We have now had nine training sessions and everyone is pretty confident in what they are doing. The equipment provided by Portal, a local company, which include soft javelins, shot putts, hurdles and such like has proved a success and a great addition to the jogscotland programme.

Our coaches and the kids have become familiar with the trainging packs and found which games are suitable for their specific age groups. The Beagles, who are our primary 1 & 2 team have settled well together and are making new friends whilst having fun. Their favourite games are tunnel tig, dodge ball and the classic 'duck duck goose'. The Terriers (primary 3 & 4) and the Hounds (primary 5, 6, &7) have been training together, again forming new friendships.

The hour sessions go in fast and the coaches bring their own interpretation of the games to their teams, whilst also having the structure of the packs.

The older teams have completed assesments and will be assessed again in the New Year, hopefully showing some improvement in their stamina and fitness.

The club has not advertised beyond an initial evaluation which was conducted earlier this year. We have full membership and now that its settled down we will be advertising places for the kids in the area.

This is the first Junior jogscotland club of it's kind and its continued success is based on it being a Community Club with support from those who live and operate in the Community.

We are a community getting our kids running.

We hope to have some pics and a video on the jogscotland site soon.

Funding

The Junior jogscotland Viewpark initiative has been funded and supported locally by the following partner agencies, local companies and organisations:

The Warburtons Trust supplied the initial funding which allowed the club / initiative to be formed.

The Rotary Club of Bothwell and Uddingston supplied our coloured training bibs.
Port@l supplied our athletic equipment.
ATHelite Running Supplies provided us with prizes in the form of training shoes for our launch in May 2008 and offer a 10% discount for all members.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue invested in the community project which allowed us to supply the club and the three partner schools with junior jogscotland training packs. With this funding we were also able to purchase t-shirts for all the coaches for easy identification.

North Lanarkshire Leisure were one of the initial partners and provided training workshops for the school staff and volunteer parents.

Scotmid supplied goody bags for all the kids at the initiative launch in May 2008

We thank all of the above for supporting this community initiative.

The Saturday Club Underway

Our club has now been running for two weeks and is finding its feet. The teams prepare their training sessions beforehand using the junior jogscotland packs and utilise the sports equipment such as the soft javelins, been bags, hoops etc which were gifted to us by Portal who are based within the community.

The hour goes in fast and everybody enjoys making new friends and having fun whilst running about and exercising. We purchased t-shirts from jogscotland for all our coaches and every child is given a training bib to wear for security and identification, these were gifted by the Rotary Club of Uddingston and Bothwell.

If you live in or attend school in NLC ward 13, Thorniewood and you have or are a child who may be interested then get in touch. All you need is a bit of energy and a pair of training shoes.

We will be arranging a visit from jogscottie and are planning other events this year.

The club will be running next on Saturday 20th September at Tannochside Primary School.

Club Start Date

Hi again, our club starts at 10am on 6 September 2008 at Tannochside Primary School, Viewpark. We have 14 parent / volunteer coaches who have been trained and disclosed and are keen to get the club 'up and running'.

Our club is ring-fenced to the specific community, however we hope that once we are in full swing, more clubs like ours will follow in your area.

Planning this club has taken a lot of time, but the response has been fantastic which makes the time and energey put in so far worth it. Our target is to have up to 60 kids aged 5 to 12 training with us on a saturday morning. We have split the kids into groups, depending on their age.

Primary 1 and 2 kids are the 'Beagles'
Primary 3 and 4 kids are the 'Terriers' and
Primary 5, 6, and 7 are the 'Hounds'

We are featured in the Autumn issue of Stride and we hope to keep you updated as the club runs on.
